Ravidasia Community

Originally Hindus, many among us belong to the oppressed class of Chamars. Unable to withstand the pressure, many Chamars converted to Sikhism, Christianity and Buddhism. And some joined influential groups including ours and Arya Samaj. Conversion of Chamars to Sikhism accelerated in the nineteenth century. However, we are not confined to Sikh Chamars. Many Hindu Chamars have also joined our community.
